I would advise to hook the winch hook on the tow hook on the bumper, then tighten - no risk of bending bracket that way.The AEV Prospector XL Tray Bed is a testament to its creators’ adventurous spirit at American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). Here are some photos of the bent bracket. I would advise to hook the winch hook on the tow hook on the bumper, then tighten - no risk of bending bracket that way. If you do - well it will stop working or start showing warning for cars in the lane beside you, instead of in front of you. If you don't have adaptive cruise you would probably never know. Unfortunately the winch is so strong that if you do that and pull line in too far, it will bend the bracket that holds the winch. I had the truck in for some mods and they did not hook the winch hook on the tow hook on front of truck - just pulled it in until it was tight to face plate of winch - I thought it looked better that way and continued to use store it that way after use. They finally took off bumper and started to take apart the winch install and found that the main bracket was bent. Soon after started having issue again - this time dealer could not align or find issue. Took it to dealer - that bracket had been removed - not the issue - they aligned and sent me on my way. Found stuff on here, that a lot of folks found that dealers missed step 7 & 8 in install and failed to remove a bracket in the bumper during install that is not used for trucks with adaptive cruise control. After about 1,000 miles I had issues with my adaptive cruise control. I have a 2022 Tremor - ordered OEM 12k Warn Winch - dealer installed.
